One of Hiphops Faces

Slug of Atmosphere, with production partner Ant, crafted one of the best hiphop (not rap) albums of 2005 ("You can't imagine how much fun we're having").

note: this is not a lame excuse for a blog post...not really...Who reads the bloody small-print? Idon't!

The 3rd verse from "little man" is the verse that put slug on my top10 list:
Dear Sean, What's goin' on? Not much to say
Just checking in with you, trying to see what's wrong today
I know there's gotta be something kicking your bruises
How's the love? How's the music? How's the self-abusiveness?
Got a lot to lose, it's breakin' your shoulders
So you let your paranoia place your bets for you
Too many cigarettes, messin' up your voice
Too many arguments, tryin' to test your poise
The only women that love you are fans and family
Mom has no choice, but fans leave you randomly
No heavy rotation in any location
You're not ready to face that you have no steady vocation
Plus you're gettin' old, your raps are exhausted
Stop it, everybody knows that you've lost it
Singin' for these kids you don't know
When you should be at home with your own,
instead you're on your telephone
Fightin' with your girl like it's you against the world
Another drunk hotel bedroom corner,
curled up like a naked fetus
Come and save him Jesus
Place him back in time before the Reaganomics and Adidas
Sometimes you're not impressed with the work you've done
And love isn't love if you didn't hurt someone
Your son says, "Hi dad."
Your dad says, "Whats up?"
And me, I wanna thank you, but I won't,
I'll just say, "Good luck."

-Slug (aka Sean Daley)
I know its still not a blog!

@nneka-lol.i'm guessing thats sarcasm

@everchange- is he hot? hes 1/2 white, 1/4 native american and 1/4 african american, does that increase his heat or hotness?

@obi- he's ill and real. not in a "keep it real" way but real as in human, flawed. plus hes the owner of the rhymesayers lable (brother ali, RJD2, blueprints, murs, MF etc) www.rhymesayers.net

@dilichi- lol. theres a point to this but its not mine to share. soon i'll be back like arnold.

EXCELLENT! I've found a fellow blog disclaimer. Hehehe I'll definitely bookmark you....

Tmtb...are you dancing close to the line? The reason he is hot is because he is wearing a THIS IS WHAT A FEMINIST LOOKS LIKE t-shirt. He is hot because he digs feminism. As for his "race mixtures", do they increase his hotness? Only if they increase his openness and willingness to transcend. His being different-looking does not automatically make him hot, anymore than I'm crushing for Eminem or the native american dude in Black Eyed Peas. Understand?

@mona- we non-blog bloggers are rare breed, i'll definitely be checking ur blog out too

@everchange- that answers my question. personally, i'm a sucker for 'human cocktails' (i'm working on a better description), and it derives (not entirely)from the theory that when God asked man(and woman, of course) to go out and populate the earth, he really meant 'go out'. That said, i've got to go iron my SAVE THE RAIN FORESTS t-shirt :)

hey man, first time i've stumbled across your blog, quite cool.
On another note, does this guy have an album? the verse was cool...dark but very cool all the same. i'm currently listening to blackalicious (he's been around for ages, but just heard about him) but any suggestions of alrenative hip-hop would do me just fine.

blackalicious are dope (they're a group actually but the rapper is 'gift of gab'). slug doesnt have a solo album but hes part of 'atmosphere' (plus a million other groups). the thing about alt. hiphop these days is that its best to stick to record labels (cos theres too much good stuff out there) and you cant go wrong with definitive jux, Rhymesayers ent., stones throw, justus league and if those arent alt enuff you might want to try anticon records
